In our most recent Yellow Pages poll, we asked you if you see public holidays as a marketing opportunity for your business. The results are in: only 32% said yes, while the overwhelming majority (68%) of respondents said no.
We get it. When you’re running a small business, long weekends are a chance to get some much-needed R&R. They are, however, also prime marketing opportunities for your business.
Here are three ways you can take advantage of public holidays in Australia to promote your business.
1. Leverage timely keywords.
In the lead up to a public holiday, the amount of Google searches for keywords related to that holiday increases. It could be tourists checking up the opening hours of local business — such as ‘cafes open on Queen’s Birthday’ — or gift-givers searching for inspiration, like ‘best Easter chocolates in Sydney’.
One of the best holiday marketing strategies is to incorporate holiday-specific keywords on your home page, or create a dedicated web page. By doing this, you’ll have a better chance to boost your visibility with your target customers on Google searches.
2. Get creative!
Think outside the box and grab your customers’ attention with timely marketing content during the Australian public holidays in 2020.
It could be something as simple as introducing new Christmas promotion ideas for retail, or creating a dedicated piece of content for Easter. If you need some inspiration, we’ve rounded up some great examples of successful holiday marketing campaigns here.
3. Set it, then forget it.
By planning your marketing campaigns ahead of time, you can stay connected with your customers and enjoy your holiday at the same time.
Create and schedule your social media posts before the holiday, so you stay top of mind during the break. The same goes for email and content marketing — a couple of blog posts or email newsletters go a long way to boosting your visibility over a public holiday.
